Custom Curtains Gatineau

Ripplefold, pinch pleat, grommet, rod pocket. Our seamstresses sew every style right here, from your fabric or ours.

Custom curtains in Gatineau give you exactly the length, fullness and drape your windows call for. For your home, restaurant or office, our seamstresses sew every style of curtain right here, from your fabric or ours.

Pleat styles

The pleat changes everything: the curtain’s silhouette, how it glides and the mood of the room.

Ripplefold glides smoothly on a track, a popular choice for wide openings. Pinch pleats give a more formal structure. Grommets have a cleaner, simpler look, while rod pockets are the most relaxed.

Fabrics and linings

The fabric

We sew in cotton, linen, velvet, silk and blends. Each behaves differently:

  • Linen falls softly and filters the light.
  • Velvet is heavy and enveloping, often chosen to help reduce drafts and soften sound.
  • Silk is delicate; we hand-hem fragile fabrics.
  • Cotton and blends are versatile and suit many styles.

The lining

  • No lining: filtered light, airy look.
  • Blackout: blocks light, ideal for bedrooms.
  • Thermal interlining: gives the curtain body and adds an insulating layer.

Rods, tracks and motorization

We supply matching rods and finials: metal rod, decorative pole, ceiling track or motorized track. Our Somfy Glydea motorization, wired or radio, opens and closes curtains from a distance.

Curtains, blinds and valances together

Curtains pair well with a blind, often a Roman shade in drapery fabric or a roller shade, to control daylight while keeping a soft look. A coordinated valance finishes the window. See our custom drapes page for the full picture.

How to choose your curtains

  1. Their job: decorative only, or also blocking light or cold?
  2. Height: hang the rod closer to the ceiling to make the window feel taller.
  3. Fullness: the more fabric, the richer the drape. An advisor can help you judge.
  4. How they open: a track for smooth motion, a pole for a more traditional look.
  5. Measurements: see our guide to measuring windows or have us come to you.

Ideas by room

  • Living room: ripplefold or pinch pleat on a track, in linen or a blend, for a clean, tailored look.
  • Bedroom: blackout lining on a soft, full curtain.
  • Kitchen: a rod-pocket or grommet panel in an easy-care fabric, sized to the window.
  • Restaurant or office: durable fabrics and consistent pleats across a long run of windows.

Care

The simplest routine is to dust your curtains from time to time, using a vacuum on low power or a gentle shake. How to clean them depends on the fabric and lining: linen, velvet and silk are not treated the same way. Ask us for cleaning advice for your fabric before washing anything.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

What we get asked most

What's the best pleat for a modern living room?

Ripplefold. Its smooth, even folds glide easily along the track. It looks more contemporary than a pinch pleat and more structured than a rod-pocket panel. Grommet curtains are another modern option, with wider, rounder folds.

Can I bring my own fabric?

Yes. We sew from your fabric or ours. If you'd like to bring your own, talk to us before you buy: the yardage depends on the pleat style, the window height and the fullness you want, and an advisor can work it out with you.

Which lining should I choose for my curtains?

Three options: no lining, blackout lining to block the light (bedrooms, home theatres), or thermal interlining for a fuller, more insulating curtain. The right choice depends on how the room is used and how light the fabric is.

Are measuring and installation included?

Yes, on-site measuring and installation are included. On request, an advisor comes to measure each window to the 1/8 inch. Matching rods and finials are supplied with your curtains. It's all covered in the free quote.

What's the maximum curtain height?

Up to 144 in (365 cm), depending on the fabric. For very tall windows or glass walls, we look at the fabric and pleat style best suited to get a good drape. Feel free to describe your room to us.

Can curtains be motorized?

Yes. Our curtains can hang on a Somfy Glydea motorized track, wired or radio. They open and close from a remote, which is handy for wide windows and heavy fabrics. Ask us whether wired or radio suits your home better: wiring is easiest to plan during construction, while radio works well in a renovation.

How long will my curtains take?

The usual lead time is 3 to 6 weeks. Each pair is sewn in our Gatineau workshop once the fabric and measurements are confirmed. Our tailoring is covered by a lifetime warranty. If you have a date in mind, mention it when you ask for your quote so we can tell you what to plan for.
