Custom drapes & curtains Gatineau
Curtains, drapes and valances tailored in our Gatineau workshop, from your fabric or ours.
OVERVIEW
Custom drapes in Gatineau let you choose the fabric, length, pleat style and lining for each window. At Stores d’Aujourd’hui, we tailor curtains, valances and fabric Roman shades in our own workshop, and we have done so since 1984.
Whether you want custom curtains for a living room, a simple panel for a bedroom, or a complete window treatment, our advisors guide you. You can start from our fabrics or bring your own.
Curtains and drapes: where to start
A good set of drapes comes down to four decisions:
- Fabric: cotton, linen, velvet, blends. It sets the texture, the fall and how much light gets through.
- Lining: unlined, simple lining, blackout or interlining, depending on privacy and light.
- Pleat or heading style: French pleat, flat pleat, grommet, rod pocket.
- Rod: its style and installation affect the look as much as the fabric.
We can also advise on how much fabric to plan for, a point that often surprises people when they choose a pleated style.
What we make
Custom curtains
French pleat, flat pleat, grommet and rod pocket curtains. French pleats are more classic and structured; flat pleats and grommets look more contemporary; rod pocket is simple and works well with lighter fabrics. See our custom curtains page to compare them in detail.
Valances
A valance dresses the top of the window and hides the rod or the headrail of a blind. We make them simple or elaborate: bring us a photo and we’ll build it. See our valances.
Drapery-fabric Roman shades
The Roman shade, tailored in drapery fabric in plain fold or hobbled style, to match your curtains and valances. For a more functional, more affordable option, see our roller-fabric Roman shades.
Curtains, blinds or both?
Many clients combine the two: a blind for everyday light control and curtains for the decorative side. The result is a window that is both practical and finished. Our workshop also makes custom blinds, so you can coordinate everything in one visit.
Choosing fabric and lining
Fabric is where most of the character comes from. Cotton is easy to coordinate, linen brings a natural, slightly textured look, and velvet is denser and richer. Lining changes how the fabric behaves: unlined panels let light glow through, while a blackout lining or an interlining blocks light and gives the panel more body and a fuller fall. A sample held up at your own window is the best test, so bring your measurements and drop by.
Measuring, tailoring and installing
We measure on site and handle the installation, including rods, finials and wall or ceiling brackets. On request, an advisor measures each window to the 1/8 inch, and that is included in the quote. To prepare, our guide to measuring windows covers the basics.
Tailoring usually takes 3 to 6 weeks, depending on fabric and complexity. We confirm the date when you order.
We serve Gatineau (Hull, Aylmer, Buckingham), Chelsea, Cantley, Ottawa and the Outaouais.

What we get asked most
What's the difference between curtains and drapes?
Curtains are lighter and often lined simply. Drapes are heavier, usually lined with blackout or interlining for a fuller fall. In both cases we'll advise you based on the room, the light exposure and the style you are after.
Can I supply my own fabric?
Yes. We tailor from your fabric or ours, and we'll confirm the yardage needed for your chosen height, width, pleat style and lining, so you know what to buy before you commit to anything.
Do you install the rods too?
Yes. Rods, finials, wall or ceiling brackets. We measure on site and handle the full install, so the rod, the curtain length and the fall of the fabric all work together from the first hanging.
How long does full tailoring take?
3 to 6 weeks depending on fabric and complexity. Pleats, lining and hand-hemmed edges all add time. We confirm the date at order. If you have a deadline, mention it when you ask for your quote so we can plan around it.
What curtain styles do you make?
French pleat, flat pleat, grommet and rod pocket curtains. The right style depends on the look you want and the type of rod. An advisor can show you pleat samples at the showroom.
Do you make valances and Roman shades too?
Yes. We make valances, simple or more elaborate (bring us a photo), and drapery-fabric Roman shades in plain fold or hobbled style, so the whole window can match.
