How Much Do Custom Blinds Cost?
The price of custom blinds comes down to a handful of clear factors. Knowing them helps you compare quotes and spend where it matters.
“How much do custom blinds cost?” is usually the first question, and the honest answer is: it depends. Not to dodge the question, but because every blind is built for one specific window. This guide walks through the factors that move the price so you can compare quotes with confidence.
Custom vs ready-made: a different logic
A ready-made blind is sold in standard sizes, and you trim it or live with what is available. A custom blind is cut, assembled and finished to the exact dimensions of your window. Ours are made in our Gatineau workshop.
That is why there is no single price to post: the amount depends on the choices you make for each window. In return, the blind fits the frame properly, controls light the way you need and suits the room.
The factors that shape the price
1. Size
The wider or taller the window, the more material is needed and the harder the mechanism works. A sliding glass door will not cost the same as a small bathroom window. Some products also have a maximum width depending on the fabric, which can mean splitting a wide window across several blinds.
2. Fabric or material
Solar, opaque or translucent fabrics, PVC, aluminum, fabric or wood slats: each material has its own cost and its own qualities. Solar shades filter light while keeping the view, while opaque fabrics block more. A textured drapery fabric sits in a different category from a functional roller fabric.
3. Type of blind and mechanism
A vertical blind, a roller shade, a day-night blind, a Roman shade or a sliding panel do not use the same parts or the same production time. The way it operates matters too: cord, bead chain or cordless.
4. Lining and options
A blackout or light-filtering lining, a border, a finishing profile or a rigid rod all add to the cost, but they genuinely change how the blind performs: a bedroom has different needs than a kitchen.
5. Motorization and controls
A motor (wired or radio), a remote, a wall switch, an app or voice control add hardware and set-up time. Our guide to motorized blinds explains the options in detail.
6. Number of windows
A multi-window project is planned differently from a single blind: production, installation and travel are grouped. List every window you are considering, even if you plan to do them in stages.
7. Measuring and installation
Our blinds are measured and installed by us. On request, an advisor measures each window to the 1/8 inch, and that is included in the quote. Hard-to-reach frames, high ceilings or unusual finishes can affect the installation work.
Where to invest first
If you have to prioritize, start with the rooms where the blind works hardest: the bedroom (darkening), the living or dining room (light and view), the home office (glare on the screen). A sun-exposed window needs a different fabric than one facing a wall. Choosing the right fabric for the right window is often more useful than adding options everywhere.
You can also phase a project: dress the most urgent windows first, then carry on. Mention this when you request the quote so products and colours stay consistent from room to room.
Why accurate measurements matter
A custom blind is made to fit the frame closely. An error of a few millimetres can affect how it runs or let light leak around it. That is why an advisor measures at your place on request, and why this step is included in the quote rather than billed separately.
How to get an accurate quote
The quote is free. To make it as accurate as possible, prepare:
- a list of windows and the room each one is in;
- approximate dimensions (see our guide to measuring windows);
- your main goal: light, privacy, style, glare or heat control;
- how you want to operate them: manual, cordless or motorized;
- photos of the windows, if you can;
- whether you prefer an inside mount or an outside mount.
If you would rather not measure, an advisor can come to measure on site, and that is included in the quote.
Common questions when budgeting
- Should every window in a room match? Not necessarily, but consistency usually looks better. Ask us about using the same fabric with different mechanisms where needed.
- Is it worth choosing a fabric for the exposure? Often, yes. A fabric suited to the sun on a south-facing window can matter more than an extra feature.
- Can I change my mind on options later? Some options, such as a motor, are easier to plan from the start. Tell us early what you might want.
Comparing quotes
To compare like with like, check that each quote states:
- the type of blind and the fabric or material;
- the mechanism and the controls;
- the lining or options;
- whether measuring and installation are included;
- the warranty listed for the product you choose.
A low price and a higher price are not comparable if the fabric, the mechanism or the installation differ.

What we get asked most
Why can't you give a price without a quote?
Because each blind is made to the exact size of your window, in the fabric and with the mechanism you choose. Two windows that look alike can lead to different prices. A free quote gives you a precise amount for your project.
What information should I bring for a quote?
The number of windows, their approximate dimensions, the room, the type of blind you have in mind, the effect you want (light, privacy, glare control) and whether you would like motorization. Photos help. Otherwise, an advisor can come and measure.
Is measuring included?
On request, an advisor comes to your place to measure each window to the 1/8 inch, and this is included in the quote.
Is installation part of the service?
Our blinds are made in our Gatineau workshop, measured and installed by us. Tell us what you would like when you request the quote so everything is clear from the start.
