Horizontal blinds in Gatineau
Aluminum, faux wood, real wood or fabric. Classic horizontal slats with 180° tilt, cut and assembled here or ordered direct from our suppliers.
The horizontal blind, often called a Venetian blind, is a classic for good reason. Our horizontal blinds in Gatineau come in aluminum, faux wood, real basswood or fabric, and their slats tilt a full 180° for precise light control.
We make them to measure. Depending on the model, they are cut and assembled in Gatineau or ordered direct from our suppliers. Either way, our team measures and installs them.
How a horizontal blind works
The slats tilt to let light through, filter it or block it, then the blind lifts fully to clear the window. That flexibility makes it a good pick for rooms where the light changes through the day, such as a kitchen, home office, dining room or bedroom.
Which material to choose
Aluminum: 1 in or 2 in
Light, slim and easy to wipe, aluminum suits kitchens, offices and anywhere you want a clean, understated look. Two slat widths are available, 1 in and 2 in. The 1 in slat is visually finer; the 2 in slat is broader and gives a clearer view when the blind is open.
Faux wood
Faux wood mimics the look of wood grain and handles humidity, so it is the sensible choice for bathrooms, kitchens and basements. It is also more affordable than real wood.
Real wood (basswood)
Basswood is light, warm to the touch and subtly varied from slat to slat. It warms up a living room, dining room or bedroom. It is available in 1 in and 2 in slats.
Fabric
The fabric horizontal blind softens the look and offers more colours and textures. If you like the horizontal blind idea but want a gentler finish, it is worth seeing in the showroom.
| Material | Best for | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminum | Kitchens, offices | Understated, easy to wipe |
| Faux wood | Bathrooms, basements | Handles humidity |
| Basswood | Living rooms, bedrooms | Warmer, more natural variation |
| Fabric | Bedrooms, living rooms | Softer look |
Slat widths and sizes
Slats come in 1 in, 2 in and 2½ in, depending on the material. Each blind is cut to the size of your window. For very wide spans, look at vertical blinds or roller shades.
Controls: cord, wand, cordless or motor
- Cord: the classic control.
- Wand: tilt the slats without a dangling cord.
- Cordless: a cleaner look; cordless options are available.
- Motor: Somfy motorization, wired or radio, handy on tall or hard-to-reach windows. Our guide to motorized blinds helps you choose.
Choosing your horizontal blind
- Which room? Humid space: aluminum or faux wood. Dry living areas: basswood or fabric.
- Which slat width? Narrower for a fine look, wider for a clearer view.
- Which mount? Inside the window frame or outside it, depending on the depth available. Our guide to measuring windows for blinds explains the difference.

What we get asked most
Faux wood or real wood, which should I pick?
Faux wood handles humidity (bathrooms, kitchens, basements) and is more affordable. Real basswood is lighter, warmer to the touch, and has more grain. Better for living rooms and bedrooms where humidity isn't an issue. A quote helps you compare both.
Should I choose 1 inch or 2 inch slats?
One inch slats give a fine, classic look. Two inch slats are broader and give a clearer view when the blind is open, so they generally suit larger windows. We also offer a 2½ in width. Comparing samples in the showroom makes the decision easier.
Can I get horizontal blinds without cords?
Yes. Controls include cord, wand, cordless and motor. Cordless is popular in bedrooms and living rooms because it looks cleaner. Somfy motorization, wired or radio, is also available, which helps on tall windows. Our advisors can walk you through the choices.
Does a horizontal blind suit a large window?
Yes, for most windows. On a very wide span the blind becomes heavy to operate, so vertical blinds, sliding panels or a roller shade can be better solutions. An advisor can help you compare.
How do I clean horizontal blinds?
A duster or soft cloth is generally enough for aluminum and faux wood. Wipe real wood slats gently without soaking them. If a blind is damaged, for example a bent slat or a worn cord, we offer blind repair in Gatineau.
